Cala d’Or belongs to the municipality of Santanyi. It has a population of around 3000 people, and a vast diversity of different coves to visit. It is also a great area to cycle.
Bikes rides near Cala D’Or
Santanyi has around 35km of coast, including the natural parc of Mondrago. There are many bike routes available. As you can see in this route map, there are three main routes:
- Route 1 (in red) of 13 km, is an intermediate difficulty route. It starts in Santanyi going to es Llombards to Cap Salines. Beaches to visit are Punta Negra and Es Caragol.
- Route 2 (in violet) is a difficult one, for experienced riders. 22 km, going through Cala Llombards, Cala Figuera and the Natural Parc of Mondragó and ending in Alqueria Blanca
- Route 3 (in blue) is the easiest one of 22 km. It starts in Alqueria Blanca. Includes Portopetro, Calonge and ends in Cala D’Or.
Beaches near Cala D’or
Cala Serena. Even though belongs to Felanitx, it’s closer to Cala D’Or. To go inside, we need to take the stairs from the street S’Hortet. It’s also accesible through the hotel Robinson. It’s frequent to see scuba divers starting its underwater exploration in this beach. Going south we find Cala Ferrera and Cala Esmeralda. Many water activities like kayak, winsurf or paddlesurf are available in this one. Cala Llonga is the one where is located the Marina of Cala D’or. Cala Gran is the nearest to cala D’Or therefore it’s the busiest one.
Portopetro
Portopetro belongs to the municipality of Santanyi. It has a population of around 600 people. It has its own fishing harbor, a natural bay with several coves, two of them sandy ones. There is also a Private Nautical Club. It is a quiet place to enjoy a good walk ah the views of the harbor.
